The Cerrado is a savannah region internationally recognized for its role as collector and distributor of water. In its territory there are countless water sources that supply eight of the twelve hydrographic basins of Brazil Basin of Tocantins, São Francisco, Parnaíba, Western North-East Atlantic, Eastern Atlantic, Paraná, Paraguai and the gigantic Prata basin (which is located in the territory of Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay and Paraguay). Although precious, the Cerrado water cycle is threatened. The expansion of cities, the massive development of hydroelectric power stations and the intensification of agribusiness are already identified causes.
