Training – Migrations and conflicts: from DR Congo to Belgium

Why do we migrate? Where do these people go when they leave their village, their home? What are their routes? These questions will be the starting point for training from Caritas International and Justice and Peace aimed at grasping the complexity of the migratory phenomenon to better visualize and understand a reality which is part of History and challenges us on a daily basis.

Using maps, testimonies and current events, this training addresses the migration phenomenon in its entirety and complexity. Then, she delves deeper into a specific case: the journey of a refugee from the DR Congo, a country prey to armed conflicts for decades, to Belgium as a welcoming land for refugees.

By alternating between presentations and participatory workshops, this training will provide informed content, varied educational tools as well as relevant reading grids to address the issue of migration.

The training is organized into 3 modules:

Module 1: Global look at migrations (maps, figures, migration routes, etc.).

Module 2: Analyzes of the multiple causes of migration and the deterioration of local living environments.

Module 3: Case study: the journey of a refugee from DR Congo in Belgium. Focus on the exploitation of natural resources as a cause of migration and the situation regarding the reception of refugees and asylum seekers in Belgium.

A conclusion will address political and civic avenues to respond to migration issues. It will also enable collective reflection and suggest educational avenues to inform and raise awareness among young people about this issue.

For who

This training is intended for teaching staff and those in charge of activities who wish to develop the issue of migration with students or young people, but also for citizens eager for serious information on this subject.
