After HEC-Paris and for the first time in Belgium, Timothée Parrique, doctor in ecological economics and researcher at the University of Lund (Sweden), opens the doors of HEC-Liège to present his book “Slow down or perish. The economics of degrowth”.

“Far from being the miracle cure for the crises we face, economic growth is the primary cause. Behind this mysterious phenomenon which unleashes passions, there is an entire economic system which urgently needs to be better understood.
In his essay on economics accessible to all, Timothée Parrique deconstructs one of the greatest contemporary mythologies: the pursuit of growth. We do not need to produce more to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities, create jobs, finance public services, and improve our quality of life. On the contrary, this modern obsession with accumulation is a brake on social progress and an accelerator of ecological collapse.
Between producing more and polluting less, we will have to choose. Easy choice because an economy can quite prosper without growth, provided it completely rethinks its organization.”
