Would you like to understand more the societal issues hidden behind the debate on Belgium's colonial past?
Would you like to develop your own analysis in order to actively participate in this debate as a citizen? We offer you one day training during which we will look at the issues of memory work by focusing on the colonial past of Belgium in Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Carrying out memory work on a conflict, recent or not, is crucial to consider the possibility of a reconciliation, conducive to live together in a society. This approach is also applicable to situations such as the colonial past, which awakens deep-rooted wounds and questions our collective identity.
Given that Memory plays an essential role in conflict prevention, talking about the past and deconstructing stereotypes in dialogue spaces and using reading grids, all while maintaining a critical perspective, sometimes helps prevent injuries from reappearing too suddenly. This then promotes the construction of an inclusive society.
