A real electoral marathon, elections at all levels, from local to presidential. Result: the overwhelming victory of the CNDD-FDD, the party of current President Pierre Nkurunziza. This democratic exercise, deemed transparent and valid by international observers, constituted a real challenge for the country. Opposition parties, however, chose to boycott the race. Today, the concentration of power is real. The CNDD-FDD dominates all of Burundian political life. On the ground, the post-election period was marked by an increase in acts of violence in Bujumbura and its surroundings. Some feared the formation of a new rebellion.
